February Life Update

Hello there everyone! Well, as is the current theme for this blog (and I’m aware when I say current that covers quite a considerable amount of time) it’s been a while hasn’t it? I think I’ve had every intention of writing this year, I’ve made promises to myself that 2024 would be a time for completing a schedule not only for blog posts but also for research and scribbling book ideas or excerpts that popped in my head. I even had a little getaway planned to a quiet destination all by myself to commit fully to the project.

However, as all great plans can do, that went a bit awry when I found out I was pregnant. Now this year looks to be somewhat different in many ways. Although, those plans are definitely just delayed not entirely cancelled.

Right now, my priorities are things like rest and organising my life/house around the impending arrival due April. You’ll be pleased to know I’ve stuck to my tradition and decided to write this while I’m in the bath. Some things never change! I am due to stop working at Easter and until then I have a small countdown of working days remaining that I’m pretty sure is annoying a lot of people but is keeping me going on the tougher days when I hurt or just feel the most tired I have ever felt.

At some point I will write a post around my thoughts and feelings of working in the mortuary while pregnant. It’s been intense and complex, not something I can easily describe but I think it’s worth addressing and discussing. I also hope that once life settles down a bit again I can crack on with research and produce some more interesting snippets for everyone.

Something that has been nice in the last few months is the number of people who have got in contact for career advice or asking questions about APT work after finding my blog. I’m really pleased that this continues to help people and put them in contact with me so I can help people directly. I really love being able to inspire and encourage people to pursue their career dreams. Even with the rest of this year being fairly planned out away from work, I will continue to be available for this sort of advice and also still be a member of the AAPT Council to strive for progress in our field.

Along with the priorities of sorting out baby stuff and making sure we have a nursery that’s fit for purpose, I’ve been taking the time I need to rest and relax which means I’ve been able to devour books again! I have joined Goodreads and would love if people wanted to add me on there. That being said, I have no idea how it works a lot of the time and particularly confused currently because my book doesn’t have the number of pages registered to update properly…. Any helpful tips would be appreciated!

In pet news, our eldest cat known as The Rockstar seems to be entering some kind of feline dementia at the ripe old age of 16. He’s gone from being a very self assured and boss cat to needing a litter tray and often being confused. I’ve had him since I lived on my own so he’s been a big part of my life for some time and a big character in the household. There’s something very bittersweet about him declining, I am prepared to care for him for as long as is needed but I also don’t want him to suffer in any way. He’s a grumpy little thing with three legs, half a tail and not many teeth, but while this is true, he is still eating and drinking and seems healthy otherwise. Anyone who has met him knows he has probably the loudest purr you have ever heard and while he still does that I know he’s okay! I made the feature photo a picture of him, just because he is so handsome.

I’ll leave this here for now, as I’m sure I could discuss the minute details of my life but no one would find it very interesting. Be assured I have been writing as I have been writing a journal detailing what’s been going on since I found out I was pregnant for little one to have when they’re older. I think a lot of my writing focus has gone there but I’ll be back one day here again!
